The main purpose of this site is to educate people about different aspects of non-violence.
(hence the word Altruism in Altruismusic)
The site and label seek to do this by attracting artists which sing about violence / non-violence and human / animal / environmental rights. The site then promotes the artists and thier releases via cover art , descriptions and sound bites (see catalog) to people globally who wish to seek out meaningful and globally aware music.
Artists can nominate a charity from a number of altruismusic sponsored charities to deliver a proportion of money from the electronic sale of thier albums. Artists decide the price of thier album and the ratio of remuneration to artist and charity respectively. Altruismusic only requires one dollar from each electronic sale and this is used to promote the site and it’s mission. Additionally because we want releases to be altruistically priced for the consumer, we suggest a price between $9 and $16.
suggested charites include
Amnesty International
Animal Liberation
PETA (people for the Ethical treatment of Animals)
The Rainforest Conservation Foundation
The Blue Mountains Fund for Prevention of Domestic and Sexual Violence
What makes people violent?
An indiginous group in India called The Jains reflect the highest principles of civilsation in thier livlihood and habits. Their doctrine of non-violence; Ahimsa is seen as thier gift to humanity. The Jains have been practicing complete non-violence since the inception of their philosophy from pre-literate times.(over 5,000 years ago) i.e. a vegetarian diet, no making weapons of any kind, no waging or engaging in civil or other wars and observing non-violence in thought, speech and deed, and demonstrating tolerance and openess toward people of different faiths and races. For this reason they are examples, models and experts of peaceful living. They often enter professions caring for the elderly or sick animals
I want to describe some thier insights on this site as a way to provide inspiration and direction to new performers and songwriters
Jainism is the philosophy of ahimsa or “non-violence”. They felt the need to invent a system and a name for it. They did this a long time ago.
Hinduism and Buddism are now widespread peaceful manifestations of thier influence
What would it mean for music to transform the world’s people the way jainism and other peaceful exponents have.managed to do thus far?
Universality…. is that no one wants to experience violence or trouble or to cause trouble or harm to others
so what can prevent this violence ?
According to the jains, the following…….
- The avoidance of one-sided, rigid thinking and dogma
- Non-possesiveness, the renunciation of materialism
- Abstinance from all acts which inflict harm on other creatures, humans or the environment
- Gender and economic equanimity
- Freeing the mind of worldly concerns, attatchments and overt passions
- Realising that emotion, desires and even life is impermanent
- Finding spiritual refuge in the self via withdrawal, reflection, meditation and self realisation
- An attitude of open-mindedness that leads to enlightenment
and perhaps the most relevant and potent; - Avoidance of delusion. and convictions which (unless you are very careful) lead to delusions of granduer(dogma/fixed ideas), which leads to intolerance and ultimately violence
I think these insights are very relevant to people in the west, for the reason that, in the long term it is very important that we eventually breed leaders in the west which will incorporate compassionate policies into thier agendas for people in underdeveloped and developing nations.

I stumbled onto your blog and read a few post. I like your style of writing.
